About this model

2071 is a war museum dedicated to the 1971 Liberation War of Bangladesh. Two interlocking bars, one laid across the other, stand for the oppression of one nation by another; the lower bar sinks into the ground. Visitors descend through constricted corridors into wide voids, then climb a grand staircase to a beacon of light. স্বাধীনতা

How it was built

• Plan geometry comes from the +12′ site plan. The scale, 10.9 px per metre, was read from the parking stalls and car lengths. The building grid sits 23.6° west of north.
• Heights come from the sectional perspective. The gallery level sits at grade, the reception level is 6.3 m down, the lower galleries are 11.6 m down, the central roof is 11.45 m up and the beacon is 31 m tall. The level names printed on the sheets (−5′, −15′, −22′) don't match the section in feet, so the section wins.
• The north wing follows the +12′ and −5′ plans, which agree with each other. The small top view shows a shorter north wing and was not used for it.
• The hatched areas beside both staircases are read as reflecting pools. The hatched strip beside the parking is read as a clipped-hedge garden.
• Rooms, stairs and gallery walls follow the −5′, −15′ and −22′ plans. The sculptures, ring chandelier and board-formed concrete follow the two interior renders.
• Trees, people, cars and boats are placed as on the plan and axonometric, then filled out for the wider landscape.

Using it

• Explore: orbit, saved views, sun and season for Dhaka, evening lighting.
• Walk: first-person with collisions through every level.
• Section: poché cuts along A–A′, B–B′ and the three level plans, with a sweep.
• Edit: pick any building part or object and change it; add, move, rotate, duplicate or delete; undo and redo. Save changes to the model, or export a design file, a zipped .glb for Blender, SketchUp or Rhino, or an image.
